Before joining LCIC he worked for many years for and with major energy suppliers, government agencies, Local Authorities, universities and Non-Government Organisations developing, marketing, managing and delivering numerous carbon reduction schemes.

Peter Metcalfe - Technical Projects Officer

As Technical Projects Officer, Peter uses lifecycle analyses and carbon footprint concepts in assessing the greenhouse gas impacts of food and farming. He has practical experience in estimating carbon footprints for food and drink produce and a specific interest in sustainable low carbon food production. Before joining LCIC, Peter worked for CRed conducting practical surveys that aimed to help business and organisations understand and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. He has also implemented practical scientific approaches to evaluate actual exhaust emissions alongside his work on greenhouse gas assessment of biodiesel using concepts given in ISO14040 series for lifecycle analyses.

Matt Taylor - CRed Systems Coordinator

Matt co-ordinates the CRed System, working alongside developers to optimise the system and clients to ensure they get excellent customer service. Before joining LCIC he worked with CRed for five years. His previous experience in television broadcast provided the skills to organise CRed’s busy events schedule. Later, as more national CReds evolved, his role grew to help those emerging CReds become established and to ensure communication between the new CReds. Contact him for more information on any aspect of the CRed system. 01603 592838

Dr. Zoe Wallage - Project Officer

Zoe’s particular area of focus is the assessment of terrestrial carbon dynamics and specialises in the practical application of biochar, including its use as a means to sequester atmospheric carbon in soils. Before joining LCIC, Zoe monitored the release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and methane (CH4) from peatland soils. She recently completed a comprehensive review of the global state of knowledge regarding the use of biochar as a carbon sequestration agent and possible soil improver for a report commissioned by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) to help the Region establish an appropriate development strategy.

Lucie Waterman - P.A. to C.E.O.

Along with the role of P.A., Lucie is a project administrator who is currently providing support on the ERDF-funded LCIC Innovation Fund for the East of England. Before joining LCIC, Lucie worked as a long-haul cabin crew member, a senior legal underwriter and a recruitment consultant. She joined the team in August 2009 and is enjoying developing her knowledge of the industry and supporting our exciting projects.

Angela Larke - Office Manager

Angela joined LCIC in 2007 and her main responsibilities, as part of the three person administrative team, involve human resources, contracts and financial matters. Before joining LCIC Angela had worked at the University of East Anglia since 1995 holding a number of administrative positions: initially working in the School of Biological Sciences, moving to the position of Secretary to the Director of Communications in a central services department and was, most recently, PA to the Director of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and Museology Programme.

Associate Consultants

Dr. Bruce Tofield, CChem, FRSC, FRSA - Associate Consultant

Bruce has led work on biofuels, transport and low-carbon construction within the LCIC. He brokered the project to create the UK's first dual-fuel (biomethane and diesel) low-emissions, low-carbon bus as part of UEA's activity in the EU-supported Civitas II SMILE programme. Within SMILE he facilitated a new supply chain for sustainable biodiesel and a spin-off from the transport work on biofuels has been a successful project with the UK oil-fired heating industry trialling renewable heating oil blends. He is now leading UEA's activity in the Interreg N Sea programme Build with CaRe (Carbon Reduction), 2008-11, that aims to mainstream low-carbon construction.

Professor Ian Bateman - Associate Consultant

Ian’s interests lie in attempting to bring the environment into everyday decision-making whether at the highest level, by informing government policy, or at the supermarket checkout by ensuring that prices reflect the true resource costs of production. Much of his research therefore seeks to value the true cost of pollution and the true worth of environmental improvements. Current research projects include: the Catchment Hydrology, Resources, Economics and Management (ChREAM) project which examines the effectiveness of policies to control agricultural pollution as well as the impact of such measures upon farm incomes; the AQUAMONEY project which looks at the recreational and ecological benefits of water improvement policies; and the VERHI project which seeks to guide policies concerned with environmental impacts upon child health.
