The Low Carbon Innovation Centre (LCIC) was established by the University of East Anglia (UEA) in October 2008 to house the university's externally-facing low carbon activities. LCIC is the strategic and administrative hub for all UEA's low carbon and climate change innovation activities. Drawing on the research expertise of the 5** rated Environmental Sciences school, LCIC seeks to accelerate the uptake of carbon-reducing technologies and practices and stimulate economic growth.

Carbon Reduction Systems

Our suite of proprietary carbon management systems includes the community CRed System, online tools and novel offsetting and carbon trading systems. In addition, through the development of bespoke systems, we provide carbon reduction programmes to corporations, public sector bodies and community groups. We also offer evaluation services to existing carbon reduction programmes. The flagship CRed System is is an online tool for local authorities and large organisations to record, monitor and analyse carbon reduction activities. The system has attracted over 150,000 carbon saving pledges so far.

Innovation Management

LCIC commercialises and adopts low carbon technologies and behaviours. LCIC is responsible for the operation of the Carbon Connections programme, which can support innovation through provision of funds and access to our in-house expertise. We currently oversee twenty six innovative low carbon projects and specialise in combining behavioural change expertise and technology development. LCIC is a knowledge transfer hub encouraging and investing in low carbon innovation.

Management Development

Drawing on the UEA MBA in Strategic Carbon Management (the first of its kind in the world), LCIC offers short management training courses aimed at informing and developing the next generation of managers in their approaches to low-carbon economic development and its impact on their business.
