Eco-Community Development

Working with Barrett Homes and Broadland District Council, LCIC has been actively involved as a carbon consultant to the proposed eco-community at Rackheath, near Norwich, which topped the Government's list of proposed eco-towns for suitability in 2009. LCIC has undertaken scoping work to develop a carbon strategy for the Eco-community and this formed part of the local authority’s successful proposal to the Department for Communities and Local Government for funding the development of the Rackheath Eco-town.

LCIC has built on this work further and now have two members of staff working full time for Broadland District Council to develop and deliver the Carbon Management Programme for the Rackheath Eco-community. This work includes embodied carbon assessments, community carbon footprinting, behaviour change programmes and real time monitoring of household carbon consumption.

LCIC are monitoring the performance of 12 Code for Sustainable Homes level 6 properties, in Rackheath as well as undertaking a study into the embodied carbon associated with the construction of those homes. LCIC has worked closely with the developer Dove Jeffery Homes, Wherry Housing Association, Broadland District Council and the residents themselves to undertake this work.
